"I go when I'm good and ready"
Awareness is one of the biggest problems when potty training your toddler. They must make the connection between their body and drives using the pot. They may feel a sudden change, but not put the two together, but - and this is when they have accidents. Be patient with your child, this is not the end of the world if your neighbor said his daughter, three months younger, is already potty trained. Toddlers have their own time, and that's okay.
Forcing a toddler to potty train is a mistake.
It is normal to have an accident at this time. If you overreact to an accident pot showing angry, upset or frustrated, your child will undoubtedly continue to have. Rest assured they do better next time. To "practice" of the actual event, take them to the potty and go through the process - have them sit for a few minutes. Continue these short trips still 6-10 times and allow them to "go through the motions." With the usual place, it will be much easier for them to remember the steps.
Celebrate every success
As your child completes each successful trip to the potty, it's a great idea to reward. For your toddler this could mean a special treat, toy or even beautiful stickers. You must be their leader during this time and provide positive reinforcement. Make sure your rewards are only for the successful trips - if you build anything less, you're looking at a longer process.
